Kuala lumpur: The police have initiated an investigation following allegations of death threats made on social media against a lawyer involved in a high-profile shooting case in Melaka. The case concerns the shooting of three individuals on November 24.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat stated that the lawyer filed a report at 5:16 pm yesterday after discovering a threatening comment made by an unidentified individual on a social media platform. The incident occurred at the lawyer’s office in Petaling Jaya.
ACP Shamsudin revealed that the threatening comment is believed to be connected to the lawyer’s current representation in the shooting case. The lawyer’s statement was recorded last night, and the investigation is proceeding under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. The police chief also urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could lead to confusion.
The shooting incident in question involved three men, aged between 24 and 29, who were killed on November 24 at 4:30 am. The incident took place at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal after one of the men allegedly attacked a police corporal with a machete while reportedly en route to commit a robbery.
On December 4, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M Kumar announced the formation of a taskforce. This taskforce was established to address concerns raised by the family members of the deceased men, who disputed police claims that the men acted aggressively. The corporal involved in the incident sustained severe injuries to his left arm.
