Kuala Lumpur: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has announced the issuance of 5,113 permits for the sale of fireworks and firecrackers from March 1 to 11, aligning with the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain revealed that the police received 7,223 applications during this period. Out of these, 264 applications were not approved, while 1,846 remain in the processing stage.
In the same timeframe, the police conducted 31 arrests and confiscated fireworks and firecrackers under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957. This section stipulates penalties that include imprisonment for up to seven years, a fine of RM10,000, or both upon conviction.
Razarudin emphasized that those who have been granted permits must adhere to the stipulated conditions, warning that violations could lead to the revocation of permits. Additionally, offenders may face arrest and have their goods seized under the same legal provisions. He also urged the public to refrain from selling or using explosives without a permit, aiming to maintain public safety and order during the festive season.
