Shah alam: Police are tracking down 10 men to assist in the investigation of two separate fight cases in Taman Alam Megah and Taman Sri Muda here last month.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar stated that of the suspects, seven men are wanted in connection with the fight in Taman Alam Megah that resulted in the death of a 23-year-old local man on August 25. Meanwhile, three others are sought for their involvement in another incident where a man was attacked with a machete and threatened with an object resembling a firearm in Taman Sri Muda.
"All of the individuals involved are aged between 23 and 46, and those still at large are wanted to assist in ongoing investigations," Shazeli mentioned during a press conference at the Selangor Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK). He revealed that following these incidents, police conducted a series of raids in Shah Alam, as well as in Lenga and Iskandar Puteri, Johor, between August 14 and 28.
The raids led to the arrest of 21 local men aged between 23 and 46, along with the seizure of various weapons, including seven machetes, two cable cutters, nine cars, and three motorcycles. "Out of the 21 arrested, eight male suspects have been charged in court under Sections 302 and 149 of the Penal Code, while another four men were charged under Section 148 of the same act," Shazeli added.
Checks revealed that the victim who died in the Taman Alam Megah case had six past criminal records related to drug offences. Shazeli noted that police do not rule out the possibility of gangsterism elements in both cases, although they involve different factions. "At the early stage, we believe the case involving the death stems from a turf war, while the other resulted from a misunderstanding. Police will not compromise with any individuals involved in gangsterism and will ensure they are all brought to court," he asserted.
On August 27, Shazeli confirmed that the fight in Taman Alam Megah involved a group of individuals and resulted in a man's death, suspected to be due to rivalry between two secret society groups. Eight men, including two brothers who are members of a secret society group, were brought to the Shah Alam Magistrate's Court on September 4 to face murder charges.
In a separate incident on August 13, a local man was seriously injured after reportedly being slashed with a machete during a fight near a petrol station in Taman Sri Muda at around 11 am.
