Police Foil Bid To Smuggle Pig Carcasses

Skudai: Police foiled an attempt to smuggle pig carcasses from a neighbouring country when they detained a lorry driver in Taman Industry Jaya in Skudai here on Friday (March 7).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Iskandar Puteri district police chief ACP M. Kumarasan stated that a special branch team from the Johor Police Headquarters and the state Department of Veterinary Services (JPV) inspected the lorry at about 11.10 pm. They discovered 90 pig carcasses, believed to have been smuggled from a neighbouring country. The 33-year-old driver was unable to produce any ownership documents.

Further investigation by the JPV confirmed that the carcasses did not originate from any licensed or approved abattoirs. Police seized the carcasses from 45 pigs, the lorry, and a set of keys, estimating the total seizure value at RM375,000.

The seized meat has been handed over to the JPV, and the case is being investigated under the Animals Act 1953. Authorities urge anyone with information on criminal activities to report to the nearest police station or contact the Iskandar Puteri district control centre at 07-511 3622 or via the hotline at 07-511 4486.
