Penang: The police are stepping up nationwide security measures in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026). Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay announced that these measures are part of routine police operations typically carried out during festive seasons or the hosting of large-scale events.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tan Sri Ayob Khan emphasized that security controls are routinely enhanced during festive periods such as the New Year. With 2026 designated as Visit Malaysia Year, these security operations are being implemented as a standard procedure. He reassured the public that there is no cause for concern, stating that security issues are under constant surveillance, and appropriate action will be taken if necessary.
Tan Sri Ayob Khan made these remarks to reporters after participating in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Penang International 2nd Bridge Solidarity Fun Ride 2026 at Queensbay. The event took place early today, with the official flag-off performed by the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Penang, Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, the previous night.
