Mukah: Police arrested an oil palm plantation labourer after discovering a firearm believed to be an air rifle, a samurai sword, and drugs suspected to be syabu during a raid on a house along the Selangau-Mukah Road, yesterday morning.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mukah District Police Chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias stated that the 36-year-old local man was initially suspected of involvement in drug abuse activities. An inspection of the suspect led to the discovery of a transparent straw segment containing crystal lumps weighing approximately 0.46 grams, suspected to be methamphetamine or syabu, inside a cigarette box kept in his sling bag.

Further examination of the suspect's room revealed a firearm believed to be an air rifle, a 79-centimeter-long samurai sword, 80 marbles believed to be used as ammunition, and a transparent plastic spray bottle. Muhamad Rizal noted that the suspect has not yet admitted to owning the weapons, and investigations are ongoing.

The case is being investigated under multiple sections of Malaysian law, including Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960 for possessing a firearm without a valid licence, Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 for possessing an offensive weapon, and Sections 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug possession and consumption, respectively.

The suspect, who has no prior criminal record, has been remanded until August 9 to assist with the investigation.
