Police Detain Man Over Seditious Facebook Post Against Royal Institution, Government

Kemaman: Police have detained a man suspected of making a seditious and insulting Facebook post against the Royal Institution, the Malaysian Government, and a security agency. Kemaman police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli confirmed that the 39-year-old man was arrested in Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya, Selangor on Wednesday, with a mobile phone and two SIM cards seized.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the seized items have been handed over to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for digital forensic analysis. The man has been remanded until Wednesday to assist in the investigation under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

On August 15, it was reported that police were investigating the owner of the Facebook account 'Ahmad Mu'min' over a post that contained seditious and insulting elements against the Royal Institution, the Malaysian Government, and the security agency.
