Pekan: Police have detained four more individuals to assist in investigations into the sale and purchase of medical leave (MC) certificates suspected to be invalid. Pahang Police Chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman reported that those arrested were in their 40s and were detained around this district last Wednesday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, five individuals were previously arrested and remanded by the Pekan Magistrate's Court. Following further investigations, four more individuals, believed to be buyers, were detained. The arrests came after the initial detentions of five individuals, including a female nurse, who were released on police bail after their three- to four-day remand period ended.
On June 15, the media reported on the initial arrests concerning the sale and purchase of medical leave certificates suspected to be invalid. The investigation continues as police aim to uncover more details about the operation.
In a separate incident, Yahaya stated that police are finalizing investigation papers related to a fatal accident at Kilometre 43 of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) last Sunday, which claimed the lives of four family members. The police are awaiting results from a chemistry report before proceeding with the prosecution.
A 40-year-old trailer driver involved in the fatal accident was arrested and remanded for four days after testing positive for drugs. The driver has a history of traffic summonses and drug-related criminal records. He has since been released on police bail after the remand period concluded.
