According to BERNAMA News Agency, Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (JKDNKA) Wildlife Crime Control/Special Intelligence Investigation Bureau (WCB/PSK) Datuk Mohd Zaki Ashar stated that the two men, aged 20 and 22, were apprehended on suspicions of serving as deliverymen during the operation. The operation targeted three locations: Taman Seri Sentosa in Kuala Lumpur, and Semenyih and Damansara Damai in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
Authorities discovered significant quantities of cigarettes from various brands, including John JDB, John JDB Superslims, Zon King, and Canyon Premium. In addition to the contraband cigarettes, police seized two vehicles-a Toyota Vellfire and Toyota Alphard-along with mobile phones and RM26,415 in cash believed to be connected to the illicit activities. Datuk Mohd Zaki noted that the premises were likely used as temporary storage before distributing the cigarettes to various locations around Kuala Lumpur.
The arrests were made under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967. Datuk Mohd Zaki mentioned that investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals involved in the distribution ring. He also revealed that from January 1 to the present, his department has conducted 237 raids nationwide, leading to the arrest of 411 individuals for various smuggling-related offenses. The total estimated value of the seizures from these operations is RM312,523,899.
