Kuala lumpur: Three female China nationals were arrested after they tried to pay for hotel rooms using counterfeit RM100 banknotes on Thursday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman reported that the women, aged between 18 and 47, used 87 fake RM100 banknotes to settle a hotel bill amounting to RM8,700.
During the arrests, police confiscated 87 counterfeit RM100 banknotes, in addition to one RM50 and RM20 note each. Authorities also seized two Louis Vuitton bags, hotel room access cards, and three iPhones as part of the investigation.
The police chief stated that investigation papers have been opened under Section 498B of the Penal Code. The suspects are currently remanded for a period of six days, until July 9.
He urged the public to exercise caution regarding banknotes and encouraged them to report any suspected counterfeit currency to the police or Bank Negara Malaysia without delay.
