Penampang: Police have arrested a suspect believed to be involved in the assault of a foreign teenage girl who was found seriously injured in a bathroom at a house in Kampung Tuntuluk, Nosoob, here this afternoon. Penampang police chief Supt Sammy Newton reported that the 29-year-old foreign national suspect was apprehended in a bush area by the roadside in Pekan Kinarut Lama, Papar, at approximately 5.50 pm today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the suspect does not possess any identification documents, and an initial urine screening test found him positive for methamphetamine. Sammy Newton stated in a statement that the preliminary investigations revealed the victim was at home with her young nephew when the suspect arrived to discuss an outstanding payment for plumbing work with the victim's sister-in-law.
Newton explained that the victim was holding a knife while preparing food in the kitchen when the suspect allegedly became enraged after she directed harsh words towards him. The suspect purportedly seized the knife from the victim before slashing her neck and pushing her against the bathroom wall, leading to injuries on her head and neck.
He further noted that the suspect fled the scene following the incident. The case is currently being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder. The victim is in stable condition but sustained serious injuries, including slash wounds to the neck and a wound on the left side of her head.
