Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of National Unity, through the National Library of Malaysia (PNM), is intensifying its efforts to enhance public access to knowledge by offering a vast collection of more than six million reading materials. This initiative aligns with the government's goal to cultivate an informed and competitive society by the year 2030.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang highlighted that the initiative is not only about preserving the nation's intellectual heritage but also aims to empower a culture of reading, encourage critical thinking, and build a knowledgeable and competitive society. PNM's collection includes 6,027,685 items, with approximately 2.5 million items acquired under the Deposit of Library Material Act (Act 331).
Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang also mentioned that PNM houses 5,405 manuscripts, which are crucial components of the nation's intellectual heritage. Additionally, PNM has enhanced digital accessibility by offering 1,014,356 free digital items through 18 databases on the u-Pustaka platform, enabling the public to access reading materials anytime and anywhere.
These initiatives underscore the MADANI Government's ongoing commitment to providing inclusive and equitable access to knowledge, which is essential for fostering a more informed, united, and progressive society.
