Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's call for enforcement agencies to implement reforms has been deemed timely by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. The reminder is seen as a crucial directive for agencies tasked with combating national revenue leakages and addressing security threats.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saifuddin emphasized the importance of these reforms, particularly for agencies responsible for securing the nation's borders and waters. These agencies face challenges such as arms smuggling, undocumented immigrants, refugees, drug trafficking, illegal fishing activities, and encroachments by foreign fishermen. He stressed that incidents like piracy, though not widespread, must be continuously controlled, along with the smuggling of essential goods like rice, cooking oil, and petrol.
Saifuddin expressed the Ministry of Home Affairs' openness to the Prime Minister's guidance and commitment to translating it into actionable measures. "When the Prime Minister issues a reminder, I then convey it to the heads of agencies in follow-up meetings and explain exactly what the Prime Minister intends," he noted.
Anwar had previously set a one-week deadline for the top leadership of enforcement teams to confirm their commitment to their roles or consider transferring to other positions. As both Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Anwar offered the option for leaders to communicate their readiness to him, the respective ministers, or their department heads.
In addition, Saifuddin highlighted the government's support for flood victims in the Kulim district. He stated that 302 affected households received RM1,000 each in Compassionate Cash Aid, totaling RM302,000. This initiative reflects the MADANI government's leadership values, which include 'ihsan' (compassion), aimed at providing support to those in distress.
