Kuala lumpur: The Kelantan Muaythai Association (PMK) is actively organising various muaythai tournaments in the state as preparation for athletes to face the Selangor 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA). PMK deputy president, Mohd Ali Akbar Yusoff, mentioned that these tournaments include the Muaythai Tournament in conjunction with the Kelantan State Games.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Ali Akbar emphasized the importance of these tournaments in providing athletes with the necessary exposure to face real matches at SUKMA, where they will encounter boxers from other states. The association has received support from the state government, the Kelantan State Sports Council (MSN), and local muaythai associations and clubs to ensure the smooth organisation of these events.
The professional and amateur tournaments are part of PMK’s commitment to ensuring that Kelantan boxers can compete at SUKMA and aim to bring home medals for the state. Mohd Ali Akbar stated that the tournaments serve as an alternative to improve boxers’ fighting skills and develop high discipline. Exposure through these tournaments is deemed crucial for maintaining optimal performance levels.
To further support the athletes, PMK is establishing training centres in several districts, including Kota Bharu, Bachok, and Pasir Puteh, enabling continuous training. These centres are designed to help boxers enhance their skills and stamina intensively before participating in SUKMA.
A total of 26 boxers have been selected from muaythai clubs across the state to represent Kelantan at SUKMA next year. These athletes are currently engaged in active training at their respective clubs and are anticipated to compete fiercely at the sports event.
