Kuala lumpur: The peace enjoyed by Malaysia's multi-racial population must be safeguarded as it is a fundamental pillar of the nation's progress, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. Anwar emphasized the importance of maintaining harmony among the diverse ethnic groups in Malaysia, which includes Malays, Chinese, Indians, Ibans, and Kadazans, to ensure the country's continued success and prosperity.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted Malaysia's unique ability to remain peaceful despite its diverse population of over 34 million people. This harmony is often showcased during cultural dance performances at festive celebrations, symbolizing unity amidst diversity.
In his speech at the Chinese New Year celebration at SJKC Chong Hwa Kanthan Baru, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of preserving peace for the nation to progress, achieve economic growth, improve education, and enhance healthcare services. He warned that internal conflict could threaten the stability of even the wealthiest nations, urging Malaysians to embrace the spirit of Gong Xi Fa Cai in the Year of the Horse as a year of good fortune.
The event also saw the attendance of Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. During the celebration, Anwar presented a cheque worth RM500,000 from the Housing and Local Government Ministry to support road resurfacing, upgrades, and repairs to public facilities and houses in Kampung Baru Kanthan.
