PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today expressed his admiration for the resilience of flood victims and the tireless dedication of flood responders and relief workers, describing them as people with extraordinary qualities in facing flood disasters. Anwar said he was deeply moved when he visited the victims and witnessed the preparations at temporary flood relief centres (PPS) in Terengganu.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar shared his experience of visiting the flood relief centres alongside Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and NADMA director-general Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus. They assessed the preparedness of these centres and the quality of resources available for flood victims. Despite the limited comfort of the facilities, he noted that the treatment, medical care, and overall relief operations were running smoothly.

Anwar highlighted the remarkable attitude of the flood victims, who remained calm despite the challenging conditions, and the enth
usiasm of relief workers who continued their efforts without expressing fatigue. He made these remarks during the Prime Minister’s Department’s monthly assembly for December 2024, where Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, along with Shamsul Azri, were present.

The Prime Minister praised the spirit of MADANI compassion demonstrated by public servants through the Ehsan MADANI Squad initiative. He emphasized that government machinery, including Cabinet members, played an active role on the ground. He described the preparations for the flood as extraordinary, noting that readiness had been planned months in advance.

Anwar expressed appreciation for all agencies involved in ensuring effective coordination across various aspects beforehand, which enabled better preparation and prompt assistance to flood victims. He noted that the months of preparations have made the relief mission effective, with operations carried out by government machinery at multiple levels, esp
ecially in Kelantan.

The country began experiencing floods last week, with Kelantan being the most affected state. It recorded 85,778 flood victims from 26,781 families placed in 251 PPS as of today. Other states impacted by the disaster include Terengganu, Perak, Johor, Kedah, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Perlis, and Melaka. The total number of flood victims recorded across the nine affected states stands at 138,052.
