PM Approves Increase in Neighbourhood Watch Grant to RM10,000

Segamat: The government has agreed to increase the annual grant for Neighbourhood Watch Area (KRT) nationwide to RM10,000 compared to RM6,000 previously and will be disbursed on January 1, 2027. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced this decision at the MADANI KITA Programme with KRTs at Dataran Segamat.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim explained that the increase in allocation was necessary as the KRT annual grant had remained at RM6,000 for the past decade, despite the institution's crucial role in addressing grassroots issues. Anwar emphasized the importance of KRTs in reviving the spirit of consensus and unity, as well as assisting security personnel and government departments with community welfare and security concerns.

Also present at the event were Deputy Minister of National Unity R. Yuneswaran and Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh. Anwar highlighted Malaysia's strength in maintaining harmony among its diverse population and urged that cultural and religious differences should be celebrated as a national strength, rather than a cause for division.

In addition to the KRT grant announcement, the Prime Minister allocated RM3.205 million for 16 basic infrastructure repair projects at Islamic educational institutions in Johor. This funding aims to upgrade facilities in religious schools, madrasahs, study centres, and tahfiz institutions across several districts, including Batu Pahat, Muar, and Segamat, to provide a better learning environment for students.

Furthermore, Anwar approved an immediate allocation of RM1.0 million for urgent repair work at the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) quarters in Johor, stressing the importance of maintaining the welfare of security personnel who are responsible for national peace.
