PM Anwar Warns Against Interference In Police Work

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today issued a stern warning to influential parties against interfering in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in carrying out legal action, particularly in cases involving large-scale criminal syndicates.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted the tendency of certain parties to shield influential individuals or groups, which has, in the past, hindered the police force's ability to enforce the law effectively. He emphasized that influential figures providing protection complicate police work and reiterated his directive to avoid obstructing police actions. This statement was made during the 219th Police Day commemoration held at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (PULAPOL).

The event was attended by key government figures, including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, and Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. Also present were Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, and his deputy Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

In his address, Anwar expressed appreciation for the police force's growing resolve in tackling illegal syndicates and corrupt individuals who had long operated with impunity. He commended the police for their professionalism and courage in dismantling these entrenched criminal networks.

Anwar reiterated the government's commitment under the Malaysia MADANI framework to ensure laws are enforced fairly, without favoring powerful and wealthy groups. He highlighted the public's increasing recognition of the PDRM's sacrifices in maintaining Malaysia's reputation as one of the world's most peaceful nations.

The Prime Minister urged police personnel to strengthen professionalism and integrity as essential components of national transformation. He noted that the security provided by law enforcement agencies underpins the government's focus on economic reform, information technology initiatives, and digital transformation.

Anwar emphasized the importance of honoring past services while setting a clear direction to enhance the professionalism and integrity of the police force. He underscored that peace is fundamental for any reform agenda and lauded the PDRM for enabling Malaysia to be recognized as among the most peaceful countries globally.

During the event, Anwar also launched the MESRA PDRM Book, a crime awareness module aimed at educating children and adolescents.
