PM Anwar Urges Private Sector To Consider Flexible Work Arrangements

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today called on the private sector to consider implementing flexible work arrangements similar to those practised in the public sector, including work-from-home (WFH).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the move could help reduce fuel consumption, ease cost pressures, and maintain workforce productivity and morale. He emphasized the need for employers to adopt a flexible and pragmatic approach in managing operations, especially in the face of cost pressures.

Anwar urged the private sector to move beyond traditional methods and embrace productivity improvements. He highlighted the importance of investing in innovation, automation, and generating value-added and sustainability. These remarks were part of his speech at the launch of the 30th Inland Revenue Board Day celebration, delivered by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

He further mentioned that the government has provided the MADANI Economy framework and clear policies to elevate the nation's standing. Anwar stressed that the private sector must fully utilize the opportunities created by these reform efforts, noting that the aspirations would require a collective commitment to be realized.

Anwar also touched upon the West Asia conflict, pointing out its significant impact on both regional stability and the global economy. He warned of potential systemic economic effects on Malaysia, such as rising logistics costs, if the crisis remains unresolved.

In light of these challenges, Anwar called for strengthened governance within the government machinery. He urged for prudent spending, closing of leakages, and intensified efforts to broaden the revenue base and improve compliance.
