Kuala lumpur: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today called on Malaysians to uphold the spirit of unity and reject race-based politics that could divide the country’s multiracial society. The prime minister said Malaysia’s progress and success in economic, social, and cultural fields would not have been possible without peace, stability, and balance among the various races and religions.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized that the progress seen in Malaysia could only happen due to the unique spirit of peace and stability that exists in the nation, despite its racial and religious diversity. Speaking at the MADANI Deepavali Open House 2025 themed ‘Cahaya MADANI, Sinar Perpaduan’ at KL Sentral, he highlighted the importance of Malaysians playing their roles wisely, especially when dealing with issues that touch on racial sensitivities.
Anwar also pointed out that the government does not discriminate based on race in implementing assistance initiatives such as the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), which are channeled to all eligible recipients regardless of race. He mentioned specific allocations for the Indian community, including RM50 million each for Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia and Tekun Nasional, and substantial funds under the Housing Credit Guarantee Scheme and Indian community business financing.
Focusing on education, Anwar shared that an additional 1,500 places in public universities have been made available for outstanding non-Bumiputera students, ensuring equal opportunities in various fields like accounting, engineering, and medicine. He reiterated the Unity Government’s commitment to improving policies for inclusivity and fairness across communities.
In closing, Anwar reflected on the deeper meaning of Deepavali, highlighting the celebration’s connection to the fight against corruption and oppression, and the promotion of truth and justice.
The MADANI Deepavali Open House 2025, supported by the Ministry of National Unity, attracted over 5,000 visitors and featured traditional delicacies and cultural performances, celebrating the unity and diversity of Malaysia’s society.
