PM Anwar Urges Malaysians to Embrace Lessons from Middle East Conflict for National Unity

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Malaysians to draw lessons from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the prolonged suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza by strengthening unity and solidarity at home. He emphasized the importance of remaining united regardless of political, racial, or religious differences to uphold the rule of law and safeguard national interests amid increasingly uncertain global geopolitics.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar stated that Malaysia's stance should not be about siding with any major power but about defending principles, justice, and sovereignty. The Prime Minister addressed the Felda community at Menara Felda, highlighting the need for Malaysia, a small country, to stand firm through the strength of its people's unity. Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and FELDA chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek were also present at the event.

Anwar pointed out that no other country had endured decades of brutality, land seizure, and destruction, including the killing of children and the devastation of hospitals and schools, like the Palestinian people for more than 70 years. He urged Malaysians to reflect on the plight of the ummah during the month of Ramadan and to strengthen unity and purify themselves and the nation. He mentioned that Malaysians have the capacity to safeguard institutions, FELDA settlements, hospitals, and schools without facing the daily destruction seen in conflict zones, urging the public to use this blessing wisely.

The backdrop of Anwar's call for unity comes after recent regional tensions, where on February 28, Israel and the United States launched airstrikes on several targets in Iran. This prompted Tehran to respond by targeting US military bases and logistics facilities in several Arab countries, leading to widespread airspace restrictions across the region.
