PM Anwar To Officiate Sabah Kaamatan Festival Today

Penampang: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to officiate the 2026 Sabah Kaamatan Festival at Hongkod Koisaan, Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) in Penampang here today. He is expected to arrive at the cultural hall at 11am to officiate the annual festival and participate in the symbolic traditional padi harvesting ceremony.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, accompanied by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Anwar will also visit the traditional houses at Koisaan Cultural Village, KDCA, and meet visitors attending the celebration. Meanwhile, Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman will officiate the festival's closing ceremony tomorrow.

The highlight of the two-day celebration is expected to attract tens of thousands of visitors. Free shuttle bus services will operate between Imago and Suria shopping centres and Hongkod Koisaan from 10am to 10pm to help ease traffic congestion.

Kaamatan, Sabah's traditional harvest festival, is celebrated throughout May in thanksgiving for a bountiful rice harvest, culminating in its annual highlights on May 30 and 31.
