Kuala lumpur: Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, who will end his duties as Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry effective tomorrow, will be appointed to a new position. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that the announcement will be made on Dec 3 following discussions with Tengku Zafrul regarding the continuity of his responsibilities after his tenure at the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) concludes.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized the ongoing responsibilities that Tengku Zafrul will continue to uphold even after his departure from MITI, highlighting his significant contributions to expanding international trade networks. Anwar, who also serves as the finance minister, praised Tengku Zafrul’s leadership at MITI, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), noting the commendable achievements under his guidance. He reiterated that those who have performed well, like former MITI secretary-general Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin, continue their responsibilities beyond official roles.
In response to inquiries about reports of China’s concerns over trade agreements with the United States, Anwar clarified that Malaysia has provided necessary explanations to Beijing, affirming that China remains a crucial business partner. Anwar also disclosed his personal discussions with Premier Li Qiang, ensuring that Malaysia’s agreements with the US do not hinder continued cooperation with China.
