Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) acts boldly against anyone, including influential individuals, in relation to corruption issues. In this regard, he assured that the MADANI government led by him would continue to support the MACC’s efforts in combating corruption and abuse of power in the country.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar expressed that the MACC has significantly impacted the country with its courage in acting against individuals who are considered to have violated the law. He extended his congratulations to the MACC for its bravery in dealing with high-profile figures, highlighting this during the 58th anniversary celebration of the MACC and the launch of the ‘Keep Malaysia Clean’ (KMC) initiative.
The event also saw the attendance of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki. Anwar emphasized that the MACC is currently executing comprehensive actions, taking bold risks despite facing opposition. He expressed pride in the MACC’s efforts and praised the team’s courage.
Anwar further remarked on the detrimental impact of corruption, citing historical examples where civilizations declined due to systemic corruption. He criticized those who question MACC investigations into high-profile corruption cases, asserting that legal action should not be hindered by the service history or health conditions of individuals involved.
He reiterated that previous service to the country does not exempt individuals from facing legal consequences, emphasizing that everyone, including the corrupt, has served in some capacity. Anwar concluded by affirming that political will and existing legal provisions are crucial for the MACC to achieve further successes in its anti-corruption endeavors.
