PM Anwar Ibrahim Highlights Civil Servants’ Role in National and Global Successes

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today emphasized the pivotal role played by Malaysian civil servants in achieving significant national and international accomplishments. He acknowledged that the strength of the public service, including personnel at all levels, greatly influences the performance of a Prime Minister, whether strong or weak.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar mentioned that many have expressed pride and admiration for Malaysia’s achievements, particularly in events such as the ASEAN Summit and the GCC-ASEAN Summit, as well as in foreign missions. He noted that Malaysia is viewed as a country with vast potential in areas like investment, new technology, and artificial intelligence. However, he stressed that these achievements are the result of teamwork within the civil service, from the lowest-ranking staff to senior civil servants and Cabinet members.

Anwar delivered these remarks during his keynote address at a dinner event for the 30th Triennial Congress of the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (CUEPACS). The event was also attended by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Public Service Department director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz, and CUEPACS president Datuk Dr Adnan Mat.

During the event, the Prime Minister announced an additional RM500,000 contribution to support the three-day congress. He also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Public Service Department and CUEPACS in working to implement the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), which has been well received by civil servants.

Anwar emphasized the importance of values such as compassion and concern, particularly in ensuring that lower-income civil servants receive fair remuneration under the new system. He stated that this aligns with the MADANI policy, which aims to ensure proper attention to the welfare of civil servants at all levels.

Earlier, CUEPACS president Adnan reiterated the commitment of the union and the civil service to remain loyal to the MADANI Government and to ensure effective government delivery systems. He emphasized their dedication to providing the best service to both the people and the government, highlighting the government’s concern for civil servants’ welfare.

Adnan assured that any future policy changes would not undermine the principle of “no less favorable” conditions for civil servants compared to what they currently receive.
