KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his condolences and admiration following the death of former US President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the age of 100. Anwar highlighted Carter’s century-long commitment to service and his willingness to challenge the status quo on critical international issues.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar released a statement on his Facebook page, emphasizing Carter’s courage and dedication. He commended Carter’s readiness to engage in dialogue with Cuba, his advocacy for denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula, and his outspoken criticism of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Anwar noted these actions as significant examples of Carter’s tendency to prioritize principle over political convention.

Anwar also praised Carter’s stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, acknowledging his early identification of Israel’s actions in Palestine as apartheid. Anwar highlighted Carter’s support for a two-state solution despite facing severe criticism from pro-Israel groups.
