PM Anwar Has Full Confidence In TNB Driving Nation’s Energy Transition Efforts

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his full confidence in Tenaga Nasional Bhd's capability to lead Malaysia's energy transition efforts and support the growth of artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure investments within the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, emphasized that Malaysia's strategic location and competitive investment environment have positioned the country as a key player in the global digital infrastructure sector. The prime minister highlighted that Malaysia continues to attract significant data center investments, notably in Johor and Sarawak, thereby reinforcing the country's role in the energy transition.

Anwar made these remarks at the launch of the Energy Transition Conference 2026 (ETCon26), where he expressed confidence in TNB's ability to guide the energy transition and deliver on the promises of AI and energy. Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad and TNB Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Razak Abdul Majid were also present at the event.

The prime minister underscored the importance of a just and secure energy transition driven by AI, aligning with the nation's interests. Anwar praised TNB for hosting ETCon to promote critical discussions on the energy transition agenda, building on the foundation of the first conference held alongside the National Energy Transition Roadmap in 2023.

Scheduled from June 3 to 5, 2026, ETCon26 by TNB aims to accelerate the national energy transition agenda. The conference serves as a global platform, gathering policymakers, technology experts, investors, academics, and industry stakeholders from over 60 countries, with 4,000 delegates attending the three-day event.

The conference, themed 'Energy and AI: The Synergy for Energy Transition', focuses on three content pillars: Energy for AI, AI for Energy, and Energy Transition for People, underscoring the interdependence between energy systems and digital technologies.
