PM Anwar Expresses Gratitude To Malaysians For Success Of ASEAN Summit

Kuala lumpur: The success of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, which concluded yesterday, was the result of the collective effort, dedication, and unity of all government agencies, support staff, and the Malaysian people. Senior Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, stated in a daily briefing by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all who contributed to the event’s smooth organisation, describing it as a shared national achievement.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister extends his deepest gratitude to all government agencies, the Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Armed Forces, volunteers, and members of the media for their unwavering commitment and dedication in ensuring the success of this historic summit. He also conveys his sincere appreciation to all Malaysians for their patience and support throughout the entire diplomatic process. On behalf of the Prime Minister, Tunku Nashrul seeks forgiveness for any shortcomings or oversights during Malaysia’s tenure as ASEAN Chair in 2025.

Tunku Nashrul highlighted that the 47th ASEAN Summit was among the largest and most high-profile gatherings of ASEAN leaders to date, attended by all ASEAN Heads of State, nine Dialogue Partners, and four Guest Countries of the Chair. He added that the summit carved a place in history for Malaysia, showcasing the nation’s credibility and diplomatic strength as ASEAN Chair under the theme ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’.

Since ASEAN’s establishment in 1967, Malaysia has assumed the chairmanship five times, in 1977, 1997, 2005, 2015, and now, 2025, each time contributing to strengthening the regional bloc’s foundation of cooperation and unity. Yesterday’s symbolic handover of the ASEAN Chairmanship to the Philippines marked the smooth transition of leadership as Malaysia entered the final phase of its chairmanship year, closing a chapter defined by collaboration, trust, and regional solidarity.

Meanwhile, Anwar, through a post on his Facebook page, described the success of the 47th ASEAN Summit as a reflection of the people in this country who successfully displayed the greatness of ‘Malaysian Hospitality’ before the presence of delegations and world leaders. He emphasized the spirit of MADANI Malaysia, where its people are united, work sincerely, uphold trust, and place the country’s dignity at the highest level.

Anwar also hopes that the people will continue to serve with the same humility and sincerity because Malaysia belongs to everyone and its future depends on the integrity of values, determination, and strength of resolve of every citizen of this country. At the same time, he expressed his highest appreciation to fellow ASEAN leaders, dialogue partners, and guests of the Chairmanship for their presence and commitment in strengthening the spirit of regional togetherness. Anwar stated that the relationship established in Kuala Lumpur is not just a symbol of diplomacy, but a symbol of hope that this region can stand firmly on the foundation of peace, justice, and shared prosperity.
