PM Anwar Embarks on Official Visit to Russia to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Moscow: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to embark on an official visit to Russia starting tomorrow, following an invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin. The visit will span from Tuesday to Friday, with scheduled stops in Moscow and Kazan, Tatarstan.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, the Prime Minister’s senior press secretary, detailed the itinerary during a live broadcast of the Prime Minister’s Office Daily Briefing. In Moscow, Prime Minister Anwar is slated to deliver a speech at the esteemed Moscow State Institute of International Relations University (MGIMO), engage with Russian business leaders, and connect with the Malaysian diaspora residing in the capital.

The visit also includes participation in the 16th International Economic Forum ‘KazanForum’ following an invitation from Rustam Minnikhanov, the Rais (Head) of the Republic of Tatarstan. During his time in Kazan, the Prime Minister will deliver a keynote address at the KazanForum plenary session, speak at the Strategic Vision Group meeting, and hold a meeting with the Rais of Tatarstan.

Upon his return, Prime Minister Anwar will attend the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2025), scheduled from May 20 to 24, with the theme ‘Innovate Today, Thrive Tomorrow’. The Prime Minister underscored the significance of LIMA 2025 as a strategic platform designed to foster collaboration among the government, industry, and educational institutions. This collaboration aims to bring together key players in the defence and commercial aviation sectors, with a focus on areas such as maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), Internet of Things (IoT), and satellite and space technology.

The Prime Minister has emphasized empowering local companies, especially small and medium enterprises, to penetrate international markets through innovation. LIMA 2025 is also anticipated to stimulate economic growth by attracting foreign direct investment, boosting tourism, and enhancing international trade.

The Prime Minister expressed his hopes for smooth preparations and extended a welcoming invitation to exhibitors, investors, and visitors from around the world to participate in LIMA 2025, aiming to make it one of the most significant editions in the event’s history.
