PM Anwar Committed to Helping Resolve Kampung Sungai Cot Orang Asli Land Issue

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will continue to play a facilitating role in helping to resolve the land dispute involving the Orang Asli community in Kampung Sungai Cot, Maran, Pahang: Political secretary to the Finance Minister Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said the Prime Minister would bring the matter to the attention of the Pahang State Government to facilitate a swift resolution that is fair and in accordance with the law.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar had taken note of the issue and had also personally contacted community representatives to hear first-hand the challenges they were facing. Muhammad Kamil stated, "The Prime Minister stressed that the matter would be brought to the attention of the Pahang State Government, as land administration and ownership fall under the jurisdiction of the state government as provided for under the Federal Constitution."

"The Prime Minister has no authority to direct the state government on land matters. Nevertheless, he has never remained silent," he added. Muhammad Kamil emphasized that political maneuvering should not distort facts and constitutional principles, as this can mislead the public and hinder efforts to resolve the issue.

He urged the Pahang State Government to act swiftly in carrying out its responsibilities, stressing that the rights and welfare of the Orang Asli community should not continue to be affected by delays in decision-making. "They deserve a fair and dignified resolution without further delay," he said.

On Friday, Anwar mentioned in a Facebook post that he would discuss the issue with the Pahang State Government, as the matter falls under the state's jurisdiction.
