Putrajaya: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the country's revenue obtained through enforcement actions against illegal activities and abuse of power is returned to the people.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, emphasized that all funds seized from illegal proceeds through the legal process and judicial decisions will be redirected for the benefit of the populace, with a particular focus on education and health sectors. He made this declaration during his speech at the 2026 National Day Prime Minister's Address, emphasizing that the funds, which total billions of ringgit, will be dedicated to enhancing these crucial areas.
The event, organised by the Ministry of National Unity, took place in anticipation of the 2026 National Day celebrations scheduled for tomorrow at Dataran Putrajaya. The celebrations will be held under the theme 'Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati', with notable attendees including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, cabinet members, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
Anwar highlighted the importance of this initiative in ensuring that independence is not only about being free from colonial rule but also about the equitable distribution of national wealth among the people. He posed rhetorical questions about the essence of independence if national revenues are not returned to the people or if any children remain marginalized.
The Prime Minister underscored the need to protect every citizen, regardless of race, including Malays, Ibans, Kadazans, Orang Asli, Chinese, and Indians, as they are all Malaysians deserving of attention and protection. He urged citizens to take advantage of the National Day celebration to strengthen national unity and work together for the country's future.
Anwar expressed his belief in Malaysia's potential to achieve great dignity and respect on the global stage, supported by the unwavering strength and spirit of its people. He conveyed a message of unity and resilience, asserting that with divine grace and collective effort, Malaysia will continue to stand strong and earn global respect.
