Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed the MADANI Government's commitment to ending outdated practices that undermine the dignity of the people, including forcing those in need to queue for long hours to receive financial aid. He stated that such practices should no longer exist in the current digital era, as they appear disrespectful and reminiscent of outdated systems from centuries ago.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized the importance of moving away from these old methods during the launch of the Pakatan Harapan election machinery for the Johor State Election at Kim's Park Business Centre. He was accompanied by DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook, PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, and PKR information chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, among others.
Anwar highlighted the government's focus on direct bank transfers to ensure that citizens receive financial assistance with dignity. He questioned the necessity of maintaining outdated methods when aid such as the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and school assistance could be directly credited to recipients' bank accounts. This approach, he believes, reflects the government's commitment to respecting people's dignity.
Furthermore, Anwar reiterated the government's dedication to educational equity by guaranteeing Matriculation Programme placements for all students who achieve 10As and above in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, irrespective of race. This decision, according to Anwar, was collectively agreed upon by all Cabinet members in the Federal Government, aiming to recognize the outstanding achievements of local students while countering claims of politicization.
Anwar also addressed the emergence of new political parties ahead of the Johor State Election, acknowledging the right of individuals to form parties as platforms for their political struggle. He urged voters to evaluate and choose a government that serves the people, rather than one engaged in abuse of power or racial politics.
