Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Malaysians to observe Aidilfitri with moderation and a heightened awareness of those enduring hardships, amidst ongoing geopolitical unrest, particularly in West Asia. He highlighted that Malaysia is not shielded from the repercussions of regional conflicts, notably the violent actions by the Zionist Israeli regime, backed by the United States, against Iran, which have affected neighbouring nations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar stressed the need for Malaysians to stay vigilant as the conflict could impact oil and goods prices, consequently affecting the cost of living and exerting pressure on the national economy. In his 2026 Special Aidilfitri Address, broadcasted live on local television, he assured that the government is committed to alleviating the people's burdens by reviving the spirit of Ramadan and promoting values of care for the needy.
Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, expressed optimism regarding Malaysia's economic standing due to effective preparation and planning in recent years. He reiterated that the MADANI Government is determined to defend and enhance this position amidst growing challenges.
He further emphasized that Ramadan serves as a school that cultivates character through moral and ethical development derived from worship during the month. Anwar underscored the importance of sustaining the values and spirit fostered by Ramadan's spiritual nurturing to bolster the inner strength of Muslims, a critical factor for Malaysia's progress.
Highlighting the objectives of fasting, Anwar referred to the teachings of Imam al-'Izz bin 'Abd al-Salam, which advocate using the Ramadan experience as a foundation for reinforcing personal character and disengaging from worldly temptations. The Prime Minister also urged Malaysians to maintain unity and harmony despite differing opinions, emphasizing that the nation's strength is rooted in unity of resolve, thought, and actions.
Anwar noted that Malaysia's diversity is foundational to its identity, with traditions like exchanging greetings, strengthening relationships, and holding open houses during Aidilfitri ingrained in societal practices. He encouraged the celebration of Aidilfitri in alignment with religious traditions and Malay cultural customs, aiming to further the Malaysia MADANI agenda for human dignity, justice, truth, equitable prosperity, and national security.
