PM Anwar Arrives in Istanbul for Final Leg of Turkey Visit

Istanbul: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived here today to attend several programs before concluding his three-day official visit to Turkey. The special aircraft carrying Anwar and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, landed at Istanbul International Airport at 2.19 pm local time (7.19 pm Malaysia time).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, accompanying the Prime Minister were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. Upon arrival, Anwar is scheduled to hold a roundtable meeting with Turkish captains of industry. Anwar is also slated to receive a courtesy call from renowned former international footballer Mesut Ozil.

The Prime Minister will later hold a press conference before departing for home, marking the conclusion of his official visit to Turkey, undertaken at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which began last Tuesday. The official visit forms part of efforts to further strengthen the long-standing bilateral relations between the two countries.

Malaysia's trade with Turkey from January to November 2025 reached RM21.2 billion (USD4.92 billion), with the republic continuing to be an important economic partner. In 2024, Turkey was Malaysia's third-largest trading partner, largest export destination, and fourth-largest source of imports among West Asian countries, with total trade valued at RM24.15 billion (USD5.28 billion).
