PM Anwar Announces Immediate Measures to Revitalize Langkawi Tourism

LANGKAWI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced a series of immediate measures aimed at revitalizing the tourism sector on Langkawi Island, Kedah, while ensuring the preservation of its rich biodiversity.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar made the announcement via a Facebook post, stating that the government would expedite initiatives designed to benefit the local community. These initiatives include establishing a university branch on the island, which is expected to stimulate growth and provide educational opportunities.

Anwar’s commitment to these measures follows a meeting with the chief executive officer of the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA). The meeting was also attended by the district officer and the Langkawi district police chief, highlighting the collaborative approach to addressing the island’s development needs. The move is part of a broader strategy to enhance Langkawi’s appeal as a tourist destination while preserving its natural environment, a critical factor in its attractiveness to both local and international visitors.
