Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasized the need for greater inclusion of women in all facets of national development. He highlighted the importance of providing adequate opportunities for women, particularly at the policy-making level, where their involvement remains limited.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar underscored the necessity for every ministry to collaborate with the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) to empower women. He urged the Chief Secretary to the Government to explore ways to enhance the role and position of women in line with their capabilities. This call was made during the 2025 International Women’s Day celebration at the World Trade Centre (WTC), where key figures like his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and other prominent ministers were present.
Anwar noted that, despite a 30 percent increase in the appointment of women to the JUSA grade in the civil service, there remains significant room for improvement. He encouraged the private sector to analyze and address the factors contributing to the underrepresentation of women in top management roles, advocating for strategic planning rather than immediate forced promotions.
He further elaborated on the crucial role women play as the backbone of society and their essential contribution to national progress. The Prime Minister also addressed the need for increased female participation in politics, noting that women’s votes are influential, yet their representation in Parliament falls short of the target, currently at approximately 14 percent compared to the desired 30 percent.
Anwar urged women leaders to assert their demands for political opportunities, stressing that political parties should ensure women have the chance to become elected representatives, thereby reflecting their significant electoral influence.
