Kuala lumpur: The Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) has interpreted PAS’ proposed age limit for the next prime minister as a strategic maneuver to exclude Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin from consideration for the position. AMK chief Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim suggests this proposal is a tactic by PAS to endorse a leader under the age of 70 from its own ranks as Perikatan Nasional’s potential prime ministerial candidate.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhammad Kamil expressed that this age limit proposition could be seen as a political gesture rather than a genuine concern over leadership dynamics. He referenced a past instance when Malaysia had a prime minister over 90 years old, and no such age restrictions were suggested. Muhammad Kamil emphasized that while age could play a role, the more critical factors for leadership are intelligence, physical fitness, effective governance, and an understanding of the populace’s needs.
Muhammad Kamil further noted the importance of young leaders in shaping the country’s future. However, he remarked that PAS’ proposal surfaced amid unresolved debates within Perikatan Nasional regarding their preferred choice for a prime ministerial candidate. Previously, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang had advocated for a prime minister who is knowledgeable, capable, and trustworthy, ideally under the age of 70.
