Kuala lumpur: PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) anticipates a significant increase in traffic, with up to 2.2 million vehicles expected on its highways during peak days from August 28 to 31 and September 4 to 7. This surge is aligned with the National Day celebrations and school holidays.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, PLUS urges travelers to plan their journeys in advance by consulting the MyPLUS-TTA (Travel Time Advisory) digital schedule available on the PLUS App. This initiative aims to distribute traffic efficiently and alleviate vehicle concentration during peak hours. The PLUS application provides real-time traffic updates, emergency assistance, incident information, toll rates, and locations of rest and service areas (RandR), including electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, to aid planning before and during travel.
PLUS is enhancing its preparations by increasing personnel at toll plazas and rest areas, improving PLUSRonda patrols, and monitoring traffic conditions through the Traffic Monitoring Centre. In a move to facilitate smoother traffic flow, PLUS will activate the Smart Lane at 33 selected locations. Drivers are advised to heed Smart Lane signs, reduce speed while using the lane, and avoid using the emergency lane outside Smart Lane activation points to prevent legal repercussions.
Furthermore, PLUS is collaborating with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), and other agencies to ensure prompt responses to any incidents on the highway. Public facilities at RandR areas are being maintained with an emphasis on cleanliness and comfort, including prayer rooms and toilets, to accommodate the increase in users.
PLUS also advises users to ensure their vehicles are in optimal condition, maintain sufficient balance on their Touch 'n Go card or e-wallet, and keep their payment card link on the JustGO app active. Drivers are reminded to adhere to speed limits, maintain safe driving distances, practice caution, and avoid mobile phone use while driving. PLUS encourages drivers to rest at RandR areas to combat fatigue.
