Kuala lumpur: National badminton players who violate Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) regulations face suspension from tournaments. BAM President Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz stated that the proposed disciplinary measures aim to ensure that players under the national governing body maintain high standards of discipline.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tengku Zafrul emphasized that players who fail to meet the higher disciplinary standards proposed by BAM may face appropriate actions, including being barred from competing in certain tournaments. He conveyed this message to reporters after inaugurating the Ampang Jaya Badminton Club (AJBC) hall.
Recently, BAM Performance Committee Chairman Datuk Seri Lee Chong Wei expressed grave concern over disciplinary issues affecting national badminton players. Tengku Zafrul highlighted that while such problems are not new, they must be addressed immediately to help the national team regain its competitive edge at the highest level.
To combat these issues, BAM has enforced several strict regulations. One significant measure is the mandatory residence requirement for unmarried players at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) hostel in Bukit Kiara. Tengku Zafrul noted that this decision was made to ensure that all players, including seniors, stay together with juniors at the ABM hostel, except for those who are married or have valid reasons.
