PKR To Select GE16 Candidates From Robust Divisions – Anwar

Kuala lumpur: PKR will only consider candidates from divisions with strong membership and grassroots machinery for the next general election (GE16). PKR president, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, emphasized that the selection criteria will also depend on the level of programme activity carried out at the division level.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar stated that even if the central leadership proposes a candidate, he will reject it if the division lacks sufficient members or is weak. He highlighted the importance of focusing on areas with strong leadership. These remarks were made during his speech at the Terengganu PKR Mini Convention held at the Terengganu Equestrian Resort.

The event was attended by notable figures including PKR vice-president and Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Chang Lih Kang, PKR secretary-general and Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, and PKR information chief and Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

Additionally, Anwar urged PKR members in Terengganu to consistently provide clear information on the MADANI Government's efforts to enhance the people's well-being, with a focus on initiatives to eradicate poverty. He stressed the priority of lifting individuals out of the hardcore poor category, which requires investment, improvements, economic growth, and funding. Anwar called on members to be the messengers of these efforts.

When speaking to reporters after the programme, Anwar mentioned that the party would entrust the state PKR leadership with determining the number of seats to be contested in GE16, including those in Terengganu.
