Kuala Lumpur: PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has confirmed his intention to contest for a central leadership post in the party’s election scheduled for May 24.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Selangor Menteri Besar stated that he has yet to decide on the specific post he will contest for. He emphasized the importance of maintaining stability within PKR and acknowledged the party’s significant role as a key player in the formation of the Unity Government.
Amirudin revealed that he has engaged in discussions with various parties, receiving mixed suggestions. Some parties advised him to retain his current position, while others encouraged him to pursue a different post.
He expressed, “I need some time. For me, the important thing is not the position in PKR but how to strengthen the party. The question is whether my decision to contest will help strengthen or create division in the party.”
Highlighting the pivotal role of PKR, Amirudin noted that as the ruling party and a crucial component of the Cabinet, including holding the Prime Minister’s post, any developments within the party could significantly impact the government. Therefore, he stressed that such decisions require careful and thorough consideration.
