Segamat: The Phase 3 Flood Mitigation Project (RTB) for Sungai Muar, Package 1, is currently over 35 percent complete and is projected to be finished by July 2029. This phase of the project stretches across 25 kilometers and is designed to provide significant flood relief to the area.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Segamat member of parliament R Yuneswaran stated that approximately 22,000 residents are expected to benefit from the project's completion. These residents include those living in Kampung Seberang Batu Badak, Kampung Pogoh, Kampung Chodan, and nearby areas that frequently experience flooding.
Yuneswaran emphasized that flooding is a recurring issue in the Segamat district, citing past major flood events in 2006 and the severe one in 2023. He noted that the Federal government's implementation of this large-scale flood mitigation project is a critical step in providing protection and relief to the affected residents.
The project, with a budget of RM558,983,000, involves several key activities including site clearing, earthworks, river widening and deepening, bypass river works, embankment construction, and the construction of outlet structures.
Additionally, Yuneswaran, who also holds the position of Deputy Minister of National Unity, mentioned that Package 2 of the project, which focuses on Sungai Jementah, is progressing well and is expected to be completed early next year, well ahead of its initial 2029 deadline.
