Johor bahru: The 2026 Pakatan Harapan (PH) Convention on Sunday is anticipated to play a crucial role in shaping the coalition's future strategies, especially in light of potential state elections in Johor and Melaka this year. PH communications director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil characterized the convention, the first in four years, as the 'first beating of the war drums,' with PH chairman and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim set to deliver the keynote address.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the convention, scheduled at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre in Johor Bahru, is expected to draw over 3,000 delegates from across the nation representing PKR, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), and DAP. Fahmi emphasized that Anwar, who is also the Prime Minister, is expected to underscore the achievements of the PH leadership and Cabinet in addressing persistent issues faced by the populace throughout his administration.
Fahmi, who also serves as PKR information chief, noted that the Prime Minister has not indicated that the 16th General Election (GE16) would be imminent, as the government remains focused on resolving issues impacting the citizens. He also highlighted that the primary focus of the PH leadership, especially the Cabinet members, during the first two to three years of the MADANI Government administration, has been the effective implementation of the agenda for change and reform.
Fahmi pointed out that careful attention is needed for major initiatives like the subsidy rationalisation measures involving RON95 petrol and diesel. In addition to speeches by top leaders, the one-day convention will include forums and podcasts featuring the Women and Youth wings in the morning, followed by sessions with leaders of PH component parties in the afternoon.
