PH Acknowledges Sultan Of Johor’s Prerogative To Appoint Menteri Besar: Maszlee Malik

Johor bahru: Pakatan Harapan will leave the appointment of the Johor Menteri Besar entirely to the wisdom and prerogative of the Sultan of Johor should the coalition succeed in forming the state government in the state election. PH's candidate for the Puteri Wangsa state seat, Dr Maszlee Malik, emphasized that the coalition has not yet discussed the post as its main focus is to provide the best possible service to the people through teamwork.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Maszlee asserted in an exclusive interview that the coalition recognizes the Sultan's constitutional role in appointing the Menteri Besar and will defer to His Royal Highness's decision. These comments were made in response to speculation on social media suggesting that Maszlee could be a leading candidate for the position if the PH bloc wins the 16th Johor state polls.

Maszlee further explained that PH's strategy does not hinge on the credibility of any single individual. Instead, the coalition is fielding a robust lineup of quality candidates across all contested seats, aiming to serve the people effectively. "For us, we will try to do our very best. We have formulated the best approach and the best service, so we don't rely on any individual. We are presenting a team. If we are contesting all 56 seats, then those 56 candidates are our 'Avengers'," he stated.

The Johor state election is set to take place with polling on July 11 and early voting scheduled for July 7.
