Petronas to Integrate AI for Enhanced Oil and Gas Production


Kuala Lumpur: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) is planning to use artificial intelligence (AI) to support its upstream operations, particularly in the domain of oil and gas production, announced its president and group chief executive officer, Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the implementation of AI is expected to speed up processes and achieve specific outcome solutions in the company’s operations. Tengku Muhammad Taufik emphasized the aim to enhance time efficiency in drilling completion, development, discovery, and the delivery of first gas or oil. He shared these insights during a dialogue session titled ‘Delivering Asia’s Energy Transition’ at Energy Asia 2025.

Petronas is currently in the initial phase of AI integration, actively learning from various service providers, especially in methane exploration. Tengku Muhammad Taufik highlighted the potential for AI to make Petronas more consumer-oriented by offering desired services and products. He underscored the import
ance of careful selection and deployment of AI tools. He also noted that the world is on the brink of the fifth industrial revolution, with AI emerging as a crucial foundational technology across different sectors.
