Kuala Lumpur: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), through its Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM) division, has signed 11 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) intended to bolster Malaysia’s oil and gas services and equipment (OGSE) sector.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, these MoUs are aligned with two primary initiatives: yard transformation and productivity enhancement, and skilled trade champion. The agreements are designed to foster industry collaboration, modernize fabrication yards, and cultivate a highly skilled local workforce, thereby equipping Malaysia to meet the evolving demands of the energy sector.
In support of the yard transformation and productivity enhancement initiative, Petronas has signed five MoUs with prominent local fabrication yard contractors. These include Brooke Holding Sdn Bhd, Ocean Might Sdn Bhd, Muhibbah Engineering (M) Bhd, Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Bhd, and Sapura Fabrication Sdn Bhd.
For the skilled trade champion initiative, six MoUs have been established with key industry players. These include Pan-Malaysia maintenance, construction and modification (MCM) contractors, Hook-up and Commissioning contractors, and the Malaysia Offshore Support Vessel Owners’ Association.
Datuk Ir Bacho Pilong, senior vice president of Petronas MPM, stated that the MoUs demonstrate the company’s ongoing commitment to building a robust and sustainable oil and gas sector in Malaysia. He emphasized that the structured implementation, conducted in collaboration with local OGSE players, will focus on measurable outcomes to foster a conducive environment for investment and accelerated growth, in alignment with national goals.
