Kuala lumpur: PETRONAS and the Terengganu State Government, through the Terengganu Economic Planning Unit (UPEN), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities for the development of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in the state. Under the MoU, both parties will collaborate to identify and assess potential sites across Terengganu for Nature-based carbon projects that meet internationally recognised certification standards. These projects are intended to generate high-quality carbon credits while delivering tangible benefits to local communities and supporting environmental conservation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the collaboration aims to leverage Terengganu's rich natural resources to establish projects that contribute to reducing carbon emissions. The partnership will focus on implementing strategies that align with global environmental standards, ensuring that the projects not only aid in climate mitigation but also bolster local biodiversity and ecosystem health.
The MoU marks a significant step towards integrating sustainable development practices within the region. The identified Nature-based Solutions will play a crucial role in addressing climate change challenges while fostering economic growth in Terengganu. The initiative is expected to create various opportunities for local communities, enhancing their livelihoods through sustainable practices.
Both PETRONAS and the Terengganu government are committed to working closely with stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of these projects. The collaboration underscores a shared vision for a sustainable future, with efforts concentrated on promoting green technology and environmental stewardship across the state.
