Petaling Jaya: Petronas Gas Bhd (PGB) anticipates a total profit impact of RM60 million for the financial year 2025 (FY2025) owing to a significant fire incident that occurred at its main pipeline near Putra Heights in Puchong, Selangor, on April 1, 2025.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the estimated financial impact, as reported in a Bursa Malaysia filing, includes both repair costs and revenue loss. PGB disclosed that the expected revenue loss, due to service interruption, is estimated at RM20 million. This was mitigated by proactive collaboration between PGB, local authorities, gas shippers, and distributors to swiftly restore pipeline services and stabilize the gas supply.
The financial impact related to repair works and asset restoration is projected to be around RM170 million. This figure is subject to change based on the final findings of ongoing investigations, current site conditions, and the extent of asset damage. A substantial portion of these costs is expected to be capitalized under the company’s capital expenditure, with partial recovery expected through insurance claims.
PGB emphasized its ongoing cooperation with authorities to thoroughly investigate the root cause of the incident and identify any contributing factors. An independent task force has been formed to oversee the post-incident investigation, recovery and restoration activities, ensuring the safety of gas transportation infrastructure and addressing other related issues.
