Kuala lumpur: PETRONAS, through Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with several regional Exploration and Production (E and P) operators, alongside University Technology PETRONAS (UTP), to explore opportunities for improved and enhanced oil recovery (IOR/EOR) in offshore areas.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MoU was formalized during the Offshore Technology Conference Asia (OTCA) 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The agreement involves multiple entities, including PETRONAS, PETRONAS Carigali Sdn. Bhd. (PETRONAS Carigali), Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), PTTEP Sarawak Oil Limited (PTTEP SKO), PTTEP Sabah Oil Limited (PTTEP SBO), and PT Pertamina Malaysia Eksplorasi Produksi (PMEP).
The collaboration aims to leverage the combined expertise of the involved parties to enhance oil recovery techniques in offshore acreages, potentially boosting the efficiency and output of existing oil fields. The involvement of a leading educational institution like UTP signifies the importance of integrating academic research with industry practices to achieve technological advancements in oil recovery.
