Kuala Lumpur: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) is actively engaging with the federal government, the Sarawak government, and Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) to finalize the specifics of Petros’s future role as the state’s gas aggregator.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Petronas emphasized in a statement that the collaboration aims to ensure that the rights and interests of all involved parties, including end-customers and investors, are adequately addressed. The company highlighted its commitment to maintaining certainty in the investment climate in response to recent reports questioning the cooperation between Petronas and Petros.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently announced that the federal government plans to meet with the Sarawak state government to outline the scope of cooperation between the two entities. The discussions will focus on exploring potential collaborations involving new projects across various fields.
Last month, Anwar assured that Petronas would continue to fulfill its domestic and international contractual obligations while designating Petros as Sarawak’s gas aggregator, as per the 2016 state ordinance on gas distribution that took effect on March 1.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said confirmed Petros’s role as the state’s gas distributor, excluding liquefied natural gas.
